Remembering Two Family Heroes this Memorial Day


Jerold Thomas Greer  & George Lorenzo Crosby

Two Greers: 
grandsons of Harris & Orpha.

Both born in St. John's, Arizona.
Both served our country.
Both died in World War II.




Jerold Thomas Greer
Son of Tom & Nellie
Born: 2 July 1924 in St. John's, Arizona
Died: 13 September 1944 in France

"At the time of his death he was with the infantry of General Patton's Third Army. The Germans had a large submarine base in Brest, France, during World War II. The American Forces reached the port city in the northwest, August 26-28, 1944. Jerold was killed in the final assault on Brest and the city was captured September 19, 1944." -Independent News and Florence Crosby

George Lorenzo Crosby
Son of George & Flossie
Born: 6 Oct 1923 in St Johns, Arizona
Died: 20 May 1945 on Okinawa, Japan

"Lorenzo attended high school in St Johns and later was a freshman at the University of Arizona in Tucson when he enlisted in the United States Marines. Dec 2,1942 he left from Phoenix, Arizona for training and left the United States June 1942 - his unit being designated as a replacement for Carlson Raiders. He was next heard from in New Caledonia. He was a tank commander.

Lorenzo was killed in the service of our country on Okinawa 20 May 1945. In letters written to our family, he was recognized by other Marines for his concern for his comrades and for his bravery." -Sylvia Clegg, FindAGrave.com

  1. I didn't really know about Lorenzo's cousin so it was nice to read about both. Memorial day is becoming much more meaningful to us all these days. Thanks for the post.
