You know what Aunt Flossie is doing today. She is gathering all of the family on her side of the veil for a heavenly picnic to celebrate her mother's 155th birthday and the 137th anniversary of the beginning of the John Harris Greer/Orpha Elzetta Nicoll family--just like she always did in St. Johns. Many of the people we love will be there. They will reminisce about their lives, for sure, but they will also be talking about us!
In D&C 84:88, the Lord promises: "I will go before your face. I will be on your right hand and on your left, and my Spirit shall be in your hearts, and mine angels round about you, to bear you up." Who are those angels? President Joseph F. Smith taught:
"When messengers are sent to minister to inhabitants of this earth, they are not strangers, but from the ranks of our kindred.... In like manner, our father and mothers, brothers and sisters and friends who have passed away from this earth, having been faithful and worthy to enjoy these rights and privileges, may have a mission given to them to visit their relatives and friends upon the earth again, bringing from the divine Presence messages of love, of warning, or reproof and instruction, to those whom they had learned to love in the flesh."
The work that we do on this side of the veil in behalf of our ancestors is vitally important, but it is so comforting to know that our ancestors can help us as well! It makes sense that the Lord would use them to bring blessings to us. You may have felt the veil being parted in your behalf, but unfortunately most times we won't. Rest assured that they are very aware of us and are anxious for our welfare!
We can't see that reunion Flossie is organizing today--but it is real. And our loved ones are getting ready for that ultimate great and glorious family reunion with us all! The greatest wish of Orpha's heart is to have all of us there together with her and John Harris.
